On June 13th Owen Griffith (Lead Renewable Energy Project Manager, National Trust) delivered a virtual tour of the Kingston Lacy heat pump project, discussing the obstacles they had to overcome, lessons learnt and the benefits of the project.

In 2016 the National Trusts Renewable Energy team started investigating how to remove oil from Kingston Lacy because it was the fifth largest consumer of oil in their South West portfolio. In 2024 they are proud to have successfully installed a Ground Source Heat Pump that provides low carbon space heating to the mansion and kitchen courtyard complex. The 17th century Kingston Lacy, in Dorset, built to resemble a Venetian palace and renowned for its remarkable collection of paintings, will save 30,000 litres of oil each year by making the switch to a renewable heating system.

“Palace of art” leaves oil in the past as National Trust switches on historic heat pump.
